Norfolk VA/18-22 July 2007

Norfolk is located in the “Hampton Roads” area of Virginia. Hampton Roads has the largest concentration of military power in the United States and is home to the world's largest Navy base, Norfolk Naval Base. Some of the military installations in Hampton Roads include:
Naval Air Station Oceana (Navy fighter attack squadron, F-14, F/A-18),
Langley Air Force Base (headquarters of the USAF Air Combat Command),
Fort Monroe (headquarters of TRADOC),
Fort Eustis (US Army Transportation Corps), and
Little Creek Amphibious Base (operating station for the amphibious forces of the United States Atlantic Fleet).
In addition, the Newport News Shipbuilding Yard, located 20 miles from Norfolk, builds all US aircraft carriers. The James River is in close proximity to the naval facilities, and is used for mothballing a large portion of the Navy's ships.

United States Navy: This trip is dedicated to the US Navy and I receive briefings from the Joint Forces Command, visit a Large Deck Amphibious Ship, and tour two nuclear submarines. I also receive briefings from the Allied Command Transformation, which is a NATO military command.

U.S. military and industry: Throughout the year I have the opportunity to see first hand many U.S. military industries in the United States. These trips are designed to acquaint with major regional industries and military complexes products or equipment. The intention is to provide you with a balanced look at American industry and U.S. military complexes.

Family Trip: This is my first family trip, which gives me an opportunity to meet and socialize. On Thursday and Friday, there are two itineraries - one for the me and one for the families. My hotel is located on the beach, have many souvenir shops and restaurants located on the beach boardwalk. A beach festival occurs every night and is an excellent opportunity to see many musical acts. We attend a narrated Norfolk harbor dinner cruise on Thursday and a picnic dinner on Friday. In addition, Saturday is a free day. We go to Busch Gardens !
